Dr. Loh Yee Jim

Dr Loh is a cardiothoracic surgeon with years of experience treating sweaty palms and armpits. He uses a minimally invasive treatment known as Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS) for permanent effects.

He received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 2000 and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Dr Loh is passionate in his work to treat people with hyperhidrosis and has previously served at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Permanent Sweaty Palms/Armpit Solution

Patients who are not satisfied with tried over-the-counter or non-surgical treatments for sweaty palms are often referred to Dr Loh for permanent treatments. This same treatment can also be performed for sweaty feet and the armpit as well.

ETS is a keyhole, minimally invasive procedure that requires general anesthesia and typically takes less than one hour to complete. Once the patient is asleep, the surgeon makes two or three small incisions below the armpit. Through these tiny holes, a miniature video camera is used to locate the sympathetic chain. The surgeon uses special instruments, to interrupt the chain at a specific level. The same procedure is then performed on the opposite side of the patient's body. Once the surgery is done, the patient will expect to be permanently cured.

What causes sweaty palms?

Excessively sweaty palms is normally known as ‘’Hyperhidrosis”. It is caused by emotional stress and the result of your body trying to control its temperature which causes the stimulation of a specific type of sweat gland from your nervous system.

The sympathetic nerve chain is part of the nervous system that runs up and down along your spine. It is responsible for the fight or flight response which during the surgical treatment of sympathectomy, the surgeon will either cut or clamps this nerve chain to prevent nerve signals from passing through it, hence effective in the treatment of excessive sweating.

The minimally invasive surgery itself takes about an hour with patients being discharged on the day itself.
